2017 Work Day – Camp Summers & Manget
On Saturday, April 22 around 7:45am the first car pulled into Camp Summers & Manget for what would end up being one of the most successful work days at the camp in numerous years. Following behind the first car were many other vehicles filled with eager workers and tools to be used for the day. Overall, over fifty individuals came together to give our camp a facelift before the summer camp season.
When Hurricane Matthew hit, numerous large pecan trees at the camp were completely uprooted. Several tree limbs had been cut up for firewood, but the majority of the debris and limbs remained on the ground. After seeking several dead-ends on making progress in having the trees removed, the Lord provided a way for much of the mess to be cleaned up. At Work Day, numerous folks with chainsaws, trucks, trailers, tractors, and strong backs worked all morning to clear debris and haul it to the back of the pecan orchard into the woods, out of sight. What a blessing it is to see our camp beautiful again as you look into the property.
While others were busy working in the pecan grove eliminating fallen trees, others were working inside the “circle” in preparing our buildings for camp use this summer. Several groups went around to each building cleaning inside the buildings and washing windows. Numerous churches tackled cleaning the cabins that their church sponsors. Air filters and detector batteries were changed out in each building. Several door frames and a threshold were repaired by a carpenter. The Director’s Cabin had new carpet installed and fresh paint in the bathroom by its sponsor church. Around the fishing dock was raked and cleaned up. Flower beds around the front gate and the entrance to the Dining Hall were weeded and received a fresh layer of mulch. Ditch banks, around trees, and many other areas were weed-eated as well.
Many hands knocked out many projects that needed to be done around our camp. Thank you to everyone who took of their time to join together to work on a property that has impacted so many lives over the years. Pray that God will continue to use this camp facility to impact many more lives with the Good News of Jesus for many years to come.
