Mountain Colors

2012 Mountain Colors – October 19-21

The annual Mountain Colors was held at Camp Three Forks Trail the weekend of October 21-23. Each year around the time when the leaves begin to change colors, the Board of Trustees sponsors a retreat at the camp. The leaves provide a beautiful backdrop for enjoying the wonder and awe of God’s creation. Seeing the breathtaking creation of God reminds me of Romans 1:20 which reads, “For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” The creation around us testifies to who God is! Time in the mountains to meet with God was a wonderful reminder of how amazing our Creator is.

Mountain Colors retreat began on Friday afternoon. Each group was assigned to where they would stay as they arrived. We were excited to have some new faces join us this year for the retreat. Following supper, we had our evening worship service. Music for our worship services was led by the Ministries Team from Southern Methodist College. They did a great job in leading us in some of the favorite hymns and choruses of the group. Rev. Ellison Evans, event director, shared from God’s Word on Friday night. The evening was wrapped up with games for the group and fellowship.

Saturday was a packed day with lots of events. After a delicious breakfast, we had a time of fellowship and clean-up. Rev. Gary Briden was the speaker for the morning and brought a challenging message on God’s Word. Following lunch, the afternoon was left open for families and individuals to do some sightseeing and hiking around the area. A group went to Highlands to hike a trail nearby with beautiful outlooks while others enjoyed the tourist shops and ice cream in Highlands, NC. We all joined back together for a delicious supper at the camp. On Saturday night, we had a variety of events. The Gospel Fellowship Singers were back again this fall for their annual concert. Mr. Raymond Talley gave a brief history and slideshow of the camp for those who had never been before or had not ever heard the history. This was then followed by a time of showcasing the talent of the group. Various individuals and groups shared their musical talents with the group. Also on Saturday night, the teens had a worship service at their primitive camp site with music and devotions.

Sunday morning worship is always a nice experience in the mountains. Rev. Stephen Evans came and shared from God’s Word. After everyone enjoyed lunch together, it was time to head back down the mountain. It always seems that the weekend goes by so fast and no one is ready to leave on Sunday.

We would love to have you at the next retreat at Camp Three Forks Trail. There will be a Spring Family Retreat at the camp on May 4-6, 2012. The retreats are a great time to escape to the mountains for a few days of relaxation and fellowship. Also, if you have been to a retreat in the past, you can invite a friend to come along with you this time! It is exciting to see how God has increased the number in attendance and the sweetness of our fellowship together. May He be glorified as we use these events to refocus and get rejuvenated for service to Him!

  • Reservations will be granted on a first come, first serve basis.
